Cruises to Cozumel, Mexico

Cruisers report enjoying small margaritas and very tasty tacos, and even learning how to make margaritas at home. This is located in Playa Del Carmen rather than on the mainland, so you will have to take a boat-ride there. My recommendation is to book with the cruise line or ensure you book with a reputable tour operator. Cozumel has some of the best snorkeling in the world (it is home to the world’s second largest reef). If you enjoy just getting out and walking, the waterfront view is gorgeous, and of course, window shopping is free.

Sometimes, all you need is a strong cup of coffee and a menu that serves breakfast till noon. That's what you'll get at Aqui + Ahora, a coffee shop with a prime location across from the ferry terminal. I love this spot for its sleek decor, sea views, and long list of great juices. This island institution is a must for a sundowner, with a two-for-one happy hour and live music on Thursday through Sunday evenings.

Chankanaab Park

Located in the San Miguel area of Cozumel, this small museum offers great information about Cozumel’s history including it’s Mayan past, it’s geography and it’s ecological side. There’s a nice restaurant on site with a beautiful view should you decide to stay for lunch. It’s about an hour away from Cozumel to Playa Del Carmen by ferry and is considered a full day excursion. While you can book this on your own, depending on what time your ship is due to leave the port, you may want to book this with the ship.

Pancho’s Backyard, in the heart of downtown San Miguel, is adjacent to Los Cinco Solas shopping arcade. The decor is traditional Mexican style with woven leather seats and bright colors. Just keeping walking north along the waterfront and you’ll find Pancho’s Backyard. If you love food, you’ll be happy to learn that Cozumel has some fabulous places to eat. If you’re like me, when I travel, I want to make sure to sample the best authentic food I can find. If you decide to walk into town, the pedestrian sidewalk is reasonably wide on the sea side.

Top Sights & Attractions for Cruises to Cozumel

You’ll be able to see incredible frescoes and beautiful statues carved into stone that rise above the blue waters of the Caribbean Sea. And, you’ll have a dedicated guide explaining the ruins to you and walking you through the unique history of this site. As part of your tour, your guide will point out Mayan ruins and beautiful caverns that line the trails.

During your adventure, you’ll bounce along jungle trails and through marshy swamps. You’ll be treated to a real taste of the wild side of Cozumel and will get to see unique orchids and wildlife as you cruise through the jungle. There are so many ways to explore the jungles of Cozumel, and one of those ways is by taking the X-rail through the jungle. What you’ll do is climb aboard an ATX-rail buggy that lets you bring the whole family along for the fun.

The best way to tour Cozumel in your rental is to start by heading south and drive along the shoreline. If you’re driving a scooter or bike you will have your own road to travel on, making the journey stress-free. The further you get away from the city the more open and serene the landscape becomes.

Best Things to Do in Cozumel Cruise Port: Everything to Know

As part of your scavenger hunt, you’ll be directed to hidden clues and mysteries around the town. Each of the clues are hidden in special, local gems that you wouldn’t otherwise think to visit. You’ll start this adventure by learning about ancient Mayan culture.

There are so many things to do in Cozumel, but you wouldn’t really be getting the island experience if you didn’t visit at least one of the amazing beaches! There are tons of gorgeous, white sand and rocky beaches that you can enjoy while in Cozumel. Cozumel, an island in the Caribbean off of Mexico's Yucatán Peninsula, draws scuba divers, snorkelers and sun seekers. If you aren’t into beaches and water sports, and prefer learning and experiencing the culture when cruising, you will enjoy either of these Cozumel excursions. In this Cozumel cruise port guide, you’ll find a list of Cozumel excursions and main attractions.

This activity is perfect for families and children of all ages looking to spend an unforgettable afternoon with dolphins on your Cozumel cruise. You’ll also have the chance to see manatees and sea lions while you’re there. Fresh seafood is always a good choice, and so is the cochinita pibil— a slow-roasted, highly seasoned pork dish. Or, walk up to a cab driver and ask how much he’d charge for a 1/2 day of touring. El Mercado is a colorful, open-air area full of little eateries and small shops. This local market is the perfect place to try all different types of local flavors, especially on a budget.

The shops onboard a cruise ship can be limited and expensive when it comes to essential supplies including snacks, medication, and accessories. The best place to go during a port visit at Cozumel is the Mega Supermarket. It’s just like going to Walmart where you can get everything you need. On this unique tour, you’ll climb aboard a historic trolley that carries you to the town of Cozumel. During your ride, you’ll learn all about the rich religious history of the city and how the town came to be.

Cozumel is proof that Mexico can do ‘island flavor’ with the best of the Caribbean. It may not be the biggest island in the sea, but Cozumel offers a huge variety of things to do, see, taste and explore. This island just happens to be perched atop a coral reef, which promises hours of snorkeling or scuba diving fun. Cruises to Cozumel dock at the island’s heart — just minutes from San Miguel’s seafront shops and the white sand beach at Chankanaab National Park.

And despite the growth of tourism in recent years, the island and its only town, San Miguel, retain much of their original warmth and charm. You’ll drive through the jungle, visit secluded beaches, and have the opportunity to snorkel in pristine waters. If you’ve always wanted to go horseback riding on the beach, check out the horseback riding tour at Mr. Sanchos. This is a 30 minute tour with a guide through the mangrove forests and jungle, before getting to the white sand beach and turquoise waters.

We’ve rounded up some of our favorite tips on where to go, what to see, and where to eat while visiting Cozumel. This is also part of Chankanaab Park which is open from 9am to 5pm. These slow-moving creatures are rarely seen in the wild so this excursion offers you the ability to get up close and personal with these “Mermaids of the Sea”. It’s called Kaokao Chocolate Factory and is just a $15 or so cab ride away. I recommend getting reservations ahead of time because time slots can fill up quickly.
